I love media. I don’t specifically mean media as in the the plural definition when describing mass modes of communication like television, radio or newspapers. I really mean every mode of expression and communication. Media as in music, books, magazines, films, photography, computers, the web, blogs, etc. I have a healthy addiction to information.

The title of this post and the tagline of this blog is a quote taken from the journalist and media critic, Walter Lippman. He feared “that the rise of new technologies and institutions of mass communication allowed for the manufacture of consent and generated dissonance between what he called ‘the world outside and the pictures in our heads’.”

Generally, what he’s talking about is the old classic philosophical debate of the nature of “truth”. Specifically, he’s pointing out our biased nature and the lack of discernment of what is “true”.  “People are more apt to believe the pictures in their heads than come to judgment by critical thinking”, he said.

But I’m repurposing that phrase with a more positive connotation. That dissonance between the outside and the inside is what I find very interesting. The day we stop that dissonance will probably be the day we stop communicating. The fact that there’s a natural need to communicate and to be understood is what I love about it.

The different tools and mediums of communication show you the unique nature of human beings and  ”the world outside and the pictures in our heads”. It gives you an individual’s unique perspective. I find it profound that we can pass along ideas and information without the need to be at same place at the same time.

That pretty much sums up what I think this blog will be about. My introduction if you will. Expect in the future my thoughts on music, books, films, tv shows, blogs, computers, cool websites, personal development, photography, personal narratives of mundane events and everything in between.
