Structure and Spontaneity aren’t Mutually Exclusive

Some people are not into systems like GTD because it goes against their creative and spontaneous state of mind, but making lists in GTD isn’t really for creating structure or routine. That’s not it’s primary purpose. The idea is to “outsource” your head. Andre Kibbe from Tools for Thought writes:

You’re never obligated to do the things on your list. If something occurs to you that’s more important than anything on your list, that’s what you should be doing.

Which do You Love: Writing or Being a Writer?

Not a commonly asked question, but one that should be asked and answered as early as possible. Steve Osborne from The Writers Bag explains why:

This is an important question, because if you don’t intrinsically love the act and process of writing just for itself, you will never have the passion to continue writing. Writing can be more difficult than breaking rocks, and you have to love doing it or you won’t last. The love of being it won’t keep you going for very long.
