Lights, Camera, Lots of Action. Forget the Script
I’m sure The Onion has written that headline before, but they’re really cutting drastically and making shorter films tailored for the web. From the NyTimes article:
The actress known as Savanna Samson once relished preparing for a role. “I couldn’t wait to get my next script,” she said.
There’s no reason to look at them anymore, she said, because her movies now call almost exclusively for action. Specifically, sex.
Such a pity that porn movies are focusing on the sex. That’s sure to get fans all mad. But in all seriousness and what I think it all boils down to. You just can’t be horny and at the same time care for a character’s feelings and intentions. That’s just totally creepy and awkward. Don’t agree? Try watching an episode of HBO’s cancelled Tell Me You Love Me or the movie Showgirls and follow the story.

Interesting article. As someone whose familiar with the adult industry, my assumption is that scripted films with dialogue call for longer shoots, higher pay for performers, and in the adult and industry, no one wants to waste time or money. It’s much easier to shoot for 2 or 3 different projects all within a week or two, rather than focus on one film for two weeks.
This article also makes a good point – internet users download more clips than porno movies, which means that dialogue and scripts are thrown out the window. And, quite honestly, if you look at the past few movies made in the 2000s, then you’ll notice some mediocre acting and poorly written dialogue. And whose going to pay for an acting teacher?
Although I may have to disagree – you can still care about a character and pitch a tent too. The examples you cited are also examples of writers who didn’t care enough about their characters (or, possibly, the plot) or were so involved in the sexual content that the characters and plot become 2-dimensional. There are definitely sexy movies that showcase unforgettable characters performing some unforgettable sex scenes.
