Our Dark, Abusive, Co-Dependent Relationship on the Content Farm

Lana & Me: Our Dark, Abusive, Co-Dependent Relationship on the Content Farm | HIPSTER RUNOFF

Hipster Runoff on Lana Del Ray, music writing and criticism, the indie music writing blogosphere, content farms, Gawker, and tons existentialist buzzwaves.

Cultural criticism on the internet is dying because we finally realized that the voices behind blogs, twitter feeds, and authentic writing outlets are as fat, bored, uninspired, and jealous as the fat, bored, uninspired, and jealous voices that we thought we had escaped from.

I am not a writer. I am not a blogger. I am a content farmer. These words mean more to the Google robot than they do 2 u. There is nothing exciting about writing, tweeting, or sharing opinions. I do not want to inspire any one to follow me into this dark prison, surrounded by a pile of memes, while I must sort thru them and spin them as ‘meaningful’, ‘interesting’, or whatever else will generate a pageview.

Must read.

Radiohead Album Available [47]

The new Radiohead album, The King of Limbs, is available today to purchase and download. The digital download was released one day ahead of schedule. The physical disc will be in stores in mid March.

The video above shows Thom York doing a post-Idioteque dance (don’t know what to call it) to the song Lotus Flower. Hipster Runoff says that he’s dancing like a slutwaver.

If you’re still not sure on giving out some dough, you can listen to it here and I’m sure it’s already making the rounds.

I’m still giving it a spin, but my first impression is that it sounds more like The Eraser, Thom Yorke’s solo project from 2006, which is not bad. Very jazzy. There’s not a lot rock riffage. It’s missing a song like Bodysnatchers.

Radiohead: 01 and 10

Radiohead: 01 and 10 | Puddlegum

This is a bit old, but a really interesting theory about how Radiohead’s In Rainbows was meant to be complemented with OK Computer. This is not a huge stretch since many music critics and fans alike agree that In Rainbows is like a second part to OK Computer. The site Puddlegum has more details about it with heated and interesting comments. But all you have to do is to make a playlist just like the one below:

01 and 10.png

After listening to the 1.5 hour playlist my conclusion is that yes, there seems to be connections there, but it’s more musically than thematically. With a little imagination you can easily connect the albums thematically, but it’s not something that’s evident in itself. The two starting tracks, Airbag and 15 Step have a similar DJ Shadow drum loop. Things definitely start to get freaky with Paranoid Android a song that thematically deals with someone that’s afraid of people controlling him and his mind, then you get Bodysnatchers, followed by Subterranean Homesick Alien. But after that it’s really just a nice playlist to listen to.
